Product Capabilities

Designed for Ethernet LANs, Network Inspector Network Monitoring Software actively monitors and diagnoses problems in TCP/IP, IPX®, and NetBIOS® environments. Network Inspector's fast discovery and clear network display quickly identifies whether the problems lie on the server, client, switch, router, or printer.

Network Inspector will automatically notify you via page or email when something goes wrong. With the press of a button, you can also walk away with a web-based report on IP,IPX, or NetBIOS device inventory and the services they provide. If you have Visio 2000 or V5.0c, Network Inspector will use Visio to create network infrastructure diagrams. This will save you hours of work creating it manually.

When used with other powerful Fluke Networks tools like the OptiView Analyzer, Enterprise LANMeter®, OneTouch™ Network Assistant and 69X Traffic Analyzers, Network Inspector will use them to gain more detailed network information. The Network Inspector OptiView Edition, LANMeter Edition and OneTouch Edition include the Reporter software that can remotely initiate tests on the instrument, retrieve the data and generate web-based reports.

Quick, Detailed Device Discovery

If you've been on the trail of a network monitoring system that gives you quick information about your network, is easy to install and easy to use, you've tracked down the answer: Network Inspector.

Network Inspector automatically discovers all the active devices in the broadcast domain; not just the switch segment like other packages, to show you what is on your network.

This discovery encompasses:

  • Device Type/Names: DNS, IPX Login and NetBIOS Machine Names
  • Device Addresses: all IP Addresses associated with the node and the MAC Address
  • Device Services Running: switching, routing, email, web, and print
  • Device Interfaces: speed and type
  • Device Protocols Supported: IP, IPX, and NetBIOS

Discover directly connected devices to Switch Port (with Switch Inspector Option)

The Network Inspector equipped with Switch Inspector Module continuously monitors the port status of switches and notes the devices directly connected to each port. You don't need to guess where things are connected anymore. Location of devices is just one click away. Interface traffic statistics can be tracked up to 24 hours. Alarm thresholds for each interface can be set to trigger an email notification or problem log.

Quick Problem Detection

Network Inspector automatically looks for devices that are not configured properly for the network such as those with duplicate IP Addresses or incorrect subnet masks.

The continuous monitoring power of Network Inspector enables the application to note problems and changes that occur for all the nodes in the broadcast domain such as servers no longer responding and IP address changes.

Trace SwitchRoute is a unique feature found in Network Inspector. This tool provides information on how two devices are connected on a switched Ethernet network with details such as link speed and last sampled traffic utilization. This information is useful to help quickly identify bottlenecks as a result of an auto-negotiation problem or design error.

Event Notification

Chances are you need to know exactly what your network is doing, 24/7. Set your network's device and port level thresholds for utilization, errors, or collisions. When a device or level exceeds its pre-set threshold, Network Inspector will page or email you immediately.

Remote Monitoring

Network Inspector uses an agent/console architecture that enables you to place an agent on the same computer as the console or on a part of your network. You can look at the information collected by a remote agent via a console on your desk.

There is only the need for one agent per broadcast domain to collect and store information in the ODBC-compliant database. Additional network professionals can have access to the same information via consoles on their desktops.
