The PWR Series Power
Supplies are multi-function, dual-tracking CV/CC power supplies featuring a
built-in microprocessor and excellent reliability. They provide multiple
output performance and experimental and systems use that rivals the previous
approach of using several single-output supplies. The PWR Series provide a
listener function that enables digital signal remote control of all functions of
the PW Series power supplies and a talker function which enables read-back of
not only all setting conditions but also output and current voltage as
well. Compatible with various remote control schemes including the GP-IB
control for system use (using the optional GP620) and computer control, the PW
Series of powerful, multi-function power supplies are the ideal choice for a
wide range of applications such as automated measuring systems and simulation
experiments.
Dual Tracking
Dual tracking is provided,
enabling positive and negative voltages and currents to track from zero
simultaneously when varied, providing positive and negative outputs with similar
absolute value. This tracking function can be disabled for individual
setting of positive and negative values.
Simultaneous Digital Display of Voltage and
Current
Output voltage and current
are indicated simultaneously on 7-segments red LED displays, and a switch
operation can be used to display the voltage and current of any of the outputs.
Presetting of Voltage and Current Value
Pairs (3 points)
Three sets of frequently
used voltage and currents (V-A pairs) can be preset, thereby enabling quick
setup of the power supply output. A variable adjustment enables continuous
adjustment of each output. The output on/off delay time can also be
preset.
One-Dial Control
To simplify operation, all
setting conditions are selected at the push button, with a single rotary-encoder
dial being used to set all values. In addition, output voltage and current
can also be set to resolutions of 10mV and 10mA, respectively. Normal/fast
switching is also available.
Output Protection
When the output is on, if a
preset switch or variable switch is changed or the tracking switch is set to on,
a protection circuit cuts off the supply output, to prevent output of unexpected
voltages and currents (when the output protect switch is set to on).
Key Lock
A key-lock function can be
used to forcibly hold all setting values, thereby preventing any inadvertent
changes of values during a power supply operation extending over long hours, or
when you leave the power supply unattended during experiments.
Last-One Memory
A backup function holds
setting values, so that when the power is switched on the values in effect when
the power was switched off are set automatically, eliminating the need to make
settings once again (except for the output switch and protect switch which are
not backed up).
ON/OFF Delay Time
For a multiple-output power
supply, when more than one of the outputs are switched on or off simultaneously,
the experimental device or circuit being supplied may be influenced
unexpectedly, running the risk of damage. To prevent this, the delay time
feature enables you to turn on a given output only after a delay time, and turns
this output off this same delay time before the other outputs. (PW18-1.8Q
and PW18-1T only).
Natural Cooling
Thanks to an energy saving
design minimizing the temperature rise inside the unit and to a structure with
high heat exhaust efficiency, the unit does not need a ventilation fan, thereby
eliminating trouble such as noise, vibration and absorption of dirt.
Rack Size Unit
Assuming the use in
experimental fields and in combination with system components, the unit has a
case size which complies with the rack specifications of EIA and JIS.
Remote Control Functions
By setting addresses for
each of a bank of PWR Series power supplies, it is possible to assign a
master/slave weight (ID). The slaves can be used either in the remote or
the local mode.
Master/Slave Operation
Master: Controller on the system
interface (only one per system).
Slave: Unit controlled by the controller
(master) on the system interface (up to 4 supplies per system).
Remote/Local Mode
Remote: In the remote mode, local
control of the PWR Series is disabled (i.e. panel operations are
disabled). When a slave receives a command from the master power supply
via the system interface, the remote mode is enabled.
Local: In the local mode, all PWR Series
functions are locally controllable (i.e. panel operations are enabled).
When the Key Lock is switched off, return is made from the remote to the local
mode.
Address Setting
The address of each power
supply (0 to 26) can be set and verified simply (from the front panel).
Addresses have a priority sequence, which starts with address 0, and
duplications of addresses is not permitted.
IDs to Ensure System Safety
Identifications of IDs to
read the output settings and actual output values of connected supplies enables
reliable monitoring, thereby facilitating software implementation of
intrinsically safe systems. An automatic system which uses GO/NO-GO
comparison to sense both over- and under-voltage (OVP and UVP) conditions
according to the output value setting can be easily implemented. A system
can be implemented which provides detection of CV/CC transitions and detection
of output voltage alarm.
GP-IB Remote Control
Listener/Talker Functions
All PWR Series function
settings and readout of the output voltage and current of each supply are
possible by using the listener/talker functions, and the addition of the GP620
(master) enables control of up to four PWR Series power supplies.
- The PWR Series (slave) can be used in the
remote mode.
- Identifications of IDs can be used to read
out output settings and output values of PWR Series supplies, ensuring
system efficiency and safety.
- The PWR Series control signal format
conforms to RS-232C standards.
- Listener Function: All PWR Series functions
including output voltage, output current, output on/off, and presets are
settable.
- Talker Function: All PWR Series function
settings, including output voltage and current, can be read back.
Service Request (SRQ)
The constant voltage (CV)
and constant current (CC) status as well as the output voltage error status of
the connected PWR Series power supplies are monitored in real time, and an SRQ
is generated as required.
Computer Control
RS-232C Control
An external computer can be
directly connected to control all PWR Series function settings and use the
supplies as programmable supplies with readable output voltage and current
values.
- One controller (master) can be used to
control up to four PWR Series supplies.
- The PWR Series power supplies (slaves) are
used in the remote mode. Because each slave has an address assigned to
it, each can be controlled individually.
- Identification of IDs can be used to control
and read the outputs of each power supply individually, enabling the
implementation of a safe system which performs program control based on
changes in load conditions.
- The PWR Series control signals conform to
RS-232C standards.
Master Operation
Single-Control Operation
One PWR Series master can
control up to four slave power supplies of the same model, controlling all
functions simultaneously under the same conditions.
- The PWR Series supplies (slaves) operate in
the remote mode.
- The master is in the talk-only condition,
with the slaves in the listen-only condition.
- Output control (including output voltage
setting, presets, output on/off, and display) of all supplies is possible
from a single master. However, parallel connection of outputs is not
possible.)
External Remote Control
Remote Function
- By connecting the RT63 Remote Controller, it
is possible to simultaneously control functions such as the preset value
(output value) switching and output on/off condition of up to four PWR
Series power supplies. It is also possible to perform remote control
using contact or logic signals via the remote controller.
- The PWR Series supplies operate in the
remote mode.
- The output value settings of each of the PWR
Series supplies can be set from the front panel of each supply when in the
local mode.
